Strong future ahead for Voices of Somali Women (VSW)
with support of activists and NGOs
On March 30th, 2012, activists from Somali women’s organisations as well as UK and International NGOs joined together at SOAS University in London to launch the Voices of Somali Women movement, a part of the Voices of African Women campaign.
The VSW movement was established as a working network of 5 Somali women’s organisations working under the VSW banner to consolidate their ability to affect change in Somalia and for Somali women in the UK.
We had an impressive speaker list:
- Speakers representing all five organisations, including:
Murkabley
- Special guest speakers included
Tom Crofts of the Foreign and Commonwealth Offices Somali Unit,
Roger Hallam of the United Nations Association,
Rai Sow of Make Every Woman Count, and
Maie El Hag of UK WILPF
A special thanks to Marie Claire Faray of UK WILPF and Common Cause UK who chaired the event.
The VSW movement is working to build Somalia’s future, as well as promote peace and security, women’s health and good governance.
