WILPF has re-established a branch in Edinburgh which meets regularly and is actively engaged in WILPFs campaigning work. The re-establishment of the branch caught the attention of Rob Gibson MSP who congratulated WILPF with a statement in Parliament which you can read on his blog.
The branch meets once a month and welcomes new members. For information about how to get involved, please email scottishwilpf @ peaceandjustice.org.uk orĀ contact the office.
The Scottish branch is very active in campaigns for Nuclear Disarmament. Scottish WILPF marked the end of the Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference in May 2010 with a trip to the Faslane Naval Base, home of trident, members kicked up a song and dance calling for the abolition of nuclear weapons. Here is a video filmed at the Faslane Naval Base in 2010:
Amongst many other activities the branch campaigned during the 16 days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence where they linked with Scottish Feminist organization Engender to sponsor a speaker for the cross party group on Men’s Violence Again Women and Children in the Scottish Parliament. Activities planned for 2011 include a video encouraging women to use their vote in the Scottish parliamentary election in May.
